The 19th Textech Bangladesh International Expo began on 12 September at the International Convention City Basahundhara (ICCB), Kuril, Dhaka.
The 4-day event (12-15 September) is being organised by CEMS Global – Conference & Exhibition Management Services Ltd. Two other events, namely 33rd Dye+Chem Bangladesh Expo 2018 and 14th Dhaka International Yarn & Fabric Show 2018, are also running parallel to this event that sees the participation of nearly 1,250 companies from across 25 countries.
Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, Speaker of the Parliament, was the chief guest at the opening ceremony of the event. She said the newly formed regulations by the government had revolutionised the garment industry in Bangladesh.
She further added that Bangladesh was fast graduating to be a developing nation and will earn US $ 60 billion from exports by the year 2021.
High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh, Harsh Vardhan Shringla, remarked that the friendship between both the countries will further strengthen the economies of both the nations. He said, India was fast emerging as a big market for apparel exporters of Bangladesh.
Among other dignitaries present on the opening day were Mirza Azam, State Minister for the Bangladesh Ministry of Textiles and Jute; Shafiul Alom Mohiuddin, FBCCI President; Rudra Chatterjee, ICC President; Meherun N Islam, President and Group Director of CEMS Global and Md Nasir and Fazlee Shamim Eshan, Vice Presidents, BGMEA.
Xiamen Etong Corduroy and Denim Exporting Co Ltd Managing Director Linda Zhuagn mentioned that they have been attending the event since 2007 and it has earned them US $ 6 million and US $ 8 million in 2016 and 2017, respectively.
