In order to help the garment exporters of India compete with countries with which India has signed free trade agreements, the Government has been urged by the textile industry body Cotton Textiles Export Promotion Council (TEXPROCIL) to extend the time period of benefits given to garment exporters. With trade agreements amongst US, EU, Korea, Vietnam, and Japan emerging, countries like India are facing fresh challenges. With Indian exporters facing problems like infrastructural disabilities, un-rebated taxes, high costs of inputs and preferential benefits given to their competitors, government should ensure the continuation of export benefits for some more time. The growth in exports of made ups and cotton fabrics, and value added products would help in generating more employment.
