Bangladesh’s leather industry, long hailed as the next most potential sector after readymade garments in terms of exports, seems to have drawn the attention of the Government as well after Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi recently urged entrepreneurs to invest in the country’s leather industry as the market of the sector is expanding day by day across the world.
“The existing environment of the country is investment friendly. The Government is giving all facilities to the investors. Leather sector is a potential sector for the investors in the country,” underlined the country’s Commerce Minister while speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration session of the three-day ‘7th Leathertech Bangladesh-2019’ at the International Convention Centre, Bashundhara (ICCB) in Dhaka recently.
Tipu further maintained that the Government expects to export US $ 5 billion in 2021 from the leather sector. “With the continuous growth and encouraged by the support given by the Government, the sector is working towards the ambition of US $ 5 billion in exports by the year 2021. We also want private sector to come forward to achieve this goal,” the Commerce Minister added.
