At the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) Board of Directors meeting on 11th August 2024, renowned businessman and philanthropist Showkat Aziz Russell was unanimously elected as the organisation’s president. On the same day, Mohammad Ali Khokon resigned from his position as president of the BTMA, citing personal reasons.

Showkat Aziz Russell led BTMA for over ten years in numerous terms as Director and for six years as Senior Vice President.

Russell, the chairman of Amber Group, is a well-known businessman in this country. He headed United Commercial Bank as its chairman. In addition, he was the director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board.

Additionally, he holds the position of Managing Director in several companies including Partex Sugar Mills Ltd., Partex Holdings Ltd., Partex Rotor Spinning Mills Ltd., Partex Denim Ltd., Dhakacom Ltd, Partex Rotor Mills Ltd., Partex Energy Ltd., Partex Spinning Mills Ltd., Partex Agrocare Ltd., Partex Board Mills Ltd., and is a Member-Governors Board of National Institute of Textile Training Research & Design.

He is also a Member of Bangladesh’s Real Estate & Housing Association. In the past, he served as the Vice Chairman of United Commercial Bank Plc from 2011 to 2013. He was also a Director of Janata Insurance Co. Ltd. and the Managing Director of Rubel Steel Mills Ltd.
