Rail India Technical and Economic Service (RITES), under Ministry of Railway; has joined hands with Apparel, Made-Ups & Home Furnishing Sector Skill Council (AMHSSC), under Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship; to offer vocational training to the youth in Faridabad, Haryana.
The training initiative is under the flagship scheme of SKILL INDIA and will be used by AMHSSC to assess and certify successful candidates at the training. While, RITES has come forward for this initiative under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.
The AMHSSC Council has been formulated by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) to develop skill repository for the apparel value chain as per national occupational standards in the industry.
Since Faridabad and NCR are together the hub of apparel manufacturing, the training initiative would also aid the apparel industry to acquire skilled labour in the region.
The vocational training as part of the initiative will focus on two courses – Sewing Machine Operator (SMO) and Self- Employed Tailor (SET). The job training is aimed at the youth in the Indian state of Haryana.
Vijai Kishore, Group GM- CSR, RITES; Faraz Khan Asst Manager, CSR and Smriti Dwivedi, Director Programmes, AMHSSC; were mainly present at the inauguration ceremony of the training programme.
Initial target for the project is to train 200 youths since it is a pilot project but it could be extended at a later stage. The courses will be for a 1-3 month duration.
AMHSSC has been given an ambitious target of certifying more than 2 million people in the Skilled Courses for apparel industry by 2022. The council is spearheading the skill training initiative in the sector by participating in the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) and various other schemes in different states including the non-PMKVY schemes as well.
