The monthly apparel imports of USA have proved to be all-time high in March 2022, valuing US $ 9.29 billion for the first time-ever in a month.
According to the latest official data released by OTEXA, the USA upped its apparel imports by 43.20 per cent in March ’22 over March ’21.
During the third month of 2022, Vietnam trumped China to be called the ‘top ranked’ apparel shipper in the US market, at least for the time being. The data, when further analysed by Apparel Resources, showed the imports from Vietnam reached US $ 1.81 billion (up 35.60 per cent) in March ’22, while values of imported apparels from China were restricted to US $ 1.73 billion, up 39.60 per cent on yearly basis.
There are many ‘firsts’ this time around in the US apparel import statistics. USA’s apparel import from Bangladesh, for the first time ever, crossed US $ 1 billion in March ’22, growing by around 96.10 per cent on Y-o-Y basis.
On the other hand, India too shipped garments worth US $ 622.69 million (up 63 per cent on Y-o-Y basis) in the US market, crossing US $ 600 million figure for the first time in its largest export destination.
With the robust demand of clothing and related items in the USA, the country’s apparel import figures hit US $ 24.31 billion cumulatively in January to March ’22 period, growing by around 39.70 per cent on yearly basis.
