Government of the rapidly upcoming African garment manufacturing hub, Ethiopia has provided 100 hectares of land to a company of Indian origin Velocity Apparelz for the construction of a modern apparel manufacturing facility in the Tigray region in Mekele city with an initial investment of US $ 150 million. Abay Woldu, President, Tigray Regional State, stated that the region has a huge investment potential and a developed infrastructure, rendering it suitable for investments in industries and manufacturing. According to Siharz Sinaha, CEO, Velocity Apparelz the project will be commenced this month and take five years to complete. Velocity Apparelz, a US $ 100 million turnover group was set-up in 1990 and has textile manufacturing facilities in India, Dubai, Jordan and Egypt that supply their products to well-known international companies like Gap, Target and Walmart. The company has also received a loan from the Development Bank of Ethiopia for the establishment of the garment manufacturing factory.
