Chittagong Port, Bangladesh’s main sea port, which handles lion’s share of imports and exports, is all set to get its capacity to handle export-bound and imported goods enhanced further as the port city would get its first multi-modal container depot in two years.
Media reports maintained this while adding Saif Logistics Alliance Ltd., a concern of Saif Power Group, recently signed a contract with Container Company of Bangladesh Ltd. (CCBL), which is a concern of Bangladesh Railway (BR), to develop the facility on the ‘design, build, finance, operate, maintain and transfer’ basis even as Saif Logistics Alliance Ltd. will invest around Taka 300 crore to build multi-modal container depot on the railway’s land in the Halishahar area of Chittagong.
Meanwhile, speaking to the media, Chairman of Saif Logistics, Tarafder Md. Ruhul Amin, reportedly, said that this would be the first multi-modal container terminal in the port city, while adding, “…It will increase the port’s container-handling capacity.”
