The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), which is the apex garment makers’ body in Bangladesh, has decided to urge global retailers and brands not to nominate any particular supplier for sourcing of raw materials and fabrics.
This is as per reports, which claimed the BGMEA has decided to do so prevent market distortions and bring back perfect competition even as speaking to the media BGMEA President Faruque Hassan reportedly maintained there has been massive growth in Bangladesh’s backward linkage industry for the export-oriented garment sector even if some international retailers and brands still nominate select suppliers, especially those from other countries, that account for around 40 per cent of raw materials and fabrics.
BGMEA President Faruque Hassan further reportedly added local companies in Bangladesh were very much capable of supplying almost all the raw materials, garment accessories and fabrics necessary as the local primary textile sector has grown a lot over the past four decades.
