The leaders of the BGMEA, which is the apex garment makers’ body in Bangladesh, recently called upon the senior US official Marcia Bernicat, who previously served as the as US Ambassador to Bangladesh, and is now a senior official for economic growth, energy, and the environment and Acting Assistant Secretary for Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs, while also urging her to promote Bangladesh in USA.
Media reports maintained this while adding BGMEA President Faruque Hassan and Vice-President Miran Ali, accompanied by Bangladesh Ambassador to the USA M. Shahidul Islam and Director of Giant Group Sharmeen Hassan Tithi met Bernicat in Washington DC recently even as Faruque Hassan, reportedly, called for Bernicat’s cooperation in changing the narrative of Bangladesh apparel sector in the USA, as she was aware and closely involved with the development and transformation of Bangladesh readymade garment industry into a safe and sustainable one.
The ex-US envoy to Dhaka, on her part, reportedly, assured of sharing the positive development and stories about the Bangladesh apparel sector, which she has witnessed, during her stay in Dhaka, with relevant stakeholders and the key personnel in the US Government.
