Bangladesh has brought into effect the duty-free market-access facility for ‘Made in Bhutan’ products to its market as a part preferential trade agreement (PTA), which was signed between the countries in December 2020.
According to reports, the PTA has been made effective for Bhutan through a much-awaited official gazette even if the customs authority has offered tax waiver on import of 16 Bhutanese products by issuing a statutory regulatory order (SRO) and with the issuance of the SRO, the duty-free market access under PTA officially came into effect on both ends of Bangladesh and Bhutan.
Meanwhile, speaking to the media, a senior customs official, reportedly, stated, now on, both Bangladesh and Bhutan will be able to avail the benefits even as he added the duty-free list of products went through some procedural steps, including ratification by the authorities concerned.
