Even as Bangladesh’s apparel export continues to surge despite the impact of the new variant of the Coronavirus in some of its major export destination, the Government, on the other hand, has set an US $ 80 billion export target for the fiscal year 2024, for the country.
Media reports maintained adding the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved the draft of ‘Export Policy 2021-2024’ on 12 January, setting the US $ 80 billion export target for FY2024 even if export target for the fiscal year 2021 was US $ 60 billion.
Addressing a virtual meeting of the committee, Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal maintained, “…all exporters will get uniformed facilities. Besides we will provide policy supports regarding challenges over 4IR…”
For information, in December 2021, Bangladesh recorded its highest ever single-month export earnings amounting to US $ 4.91 billion consequent to a strong rebound in demand for apparels in the West amidst the spread of the new variant of the virus even if according to the provisional data of the country’s Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), export receipts for the said month surpassed the US $ 3.91 billion target, registering more than 48 per cent year-on-year growth.
