
Sarathi, a project under Swisscontact, is building a network of self-sustaining public and private partnerships with the aim to bring the apparel workers in Bangladesh, under financial inclusion.
Media reports maintained this while adding one of the major objectives of the National Financial Inclusion Strategy (NFIS) of Bangladesh Government is to achieve 100 per cent financial inclusion by 2024 and Sarathi will go a long way towards facilitating the same.
Planning Minister MA Mannan launched ‘Sarathi- Improving Financial Health’, a 24-month project of Swisscontact in collaboration with MetLife Foundation, in Dhaka recently even if participating in the launch event, speakers have, reportedly, underlined three out of five apparel workers fell outside the purview of the formal financial institutions and only 20 per cent of RMG workers were saving money through formal financial services, whereas 80 per cent of them are making transactions through cash.
