With the aim to provide the working mothers reliable and safe places for their children during the working hours, Bangladesh Government, for the last few years, has been implementing in phases, day-care facilities for the children of women garment workers.
According to media reports, the first phase of the day care centre has been implemented already while the deadline for the implementation of second phase is by the end of this month even as 15 day-care centres are likely to be established in the first two phases while the third phase of the programme will begin from the next month and five more day care centres will be set up during this implementation period (from July 2021 to June 2022) even if the period for implementing the same has been extended.
Jatiyo Mohila Sangstha officials — with an aim to ensure basic early foundation alongside other related facilities, Jatiyo Mohila Sangstha, under the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, undertook the initiative to implement the programme for the children of female garment workers — reportedly maintained this.
It may be maintained here that a total amount of Taka 889.42 lakh was approved and Taka 243.53 lakh was allocated in the fiscal year (FY) 2020-21 for the implementation of this programme, the service of which is completely free of cost and as part of which the working mothers can work at their respective workplaces without any worries, which is a big relief for the working mothers engaged in the apparel sector.
