DBL Group, one of Bangladesh’s prominent garment manufacturers, faced the workers’ wrath on Monday after a group of workers demanding full salary for the month of April took out a procession in the morning and subsequently vandalised furniture, vehicles and CCTV cameras in one of its factories.
As per media reports which cited Vice-Chairman of DBL Group MA Rahim, workers came to work on Monday after receiving their partial salaries on Sunday, but they later started the protests.
Keeping with directives, DBL on Sunday reportedly distributed 60 per cent of the April salary among the workers but on Monday a group of workers of its Gazipur’s Kashimpur-based unit started agitating in front of the factory and later a group of around 40-50 workers reportedly resorted to vandalism.
The DBL Group’s Vice Chairman added that only 40 to 50 of workers resorted to vandalism.
It may be mentioned here that DBL Group has around 36,000 workers working in the Group’s various manufacturing units.
