With an aim to ensure workplace safety, maintain compliance as per global standards and save the environment from pollution, Bangladesh Government has decided to come up with a Green Factory Award.
According to media reports, as Bangladesh aims to attain the Sustainable Development Goals (which require urgent actions to combat climate change and its impacts by regulating emissions), the Labour and Employment Ministry has recently issued a gazette notification on the ‘Green Factory Award Policy’.
Through this we want to encourage factory owners to maintain compliance… I hope the award will help increase factories’ productivity and ensure workplace safety for the workers, reportedly underlined Additional Secretary of the Labour and Employment Ministry, Md. Rezaul Haque.
As per reports, the award will be given to entities based on the use of eco-friendly construction materials, use of solar power in manufacturing unit, access to sunlight, firefighting system, adequate free space on the factory premises, accommodation, schools, markets and bus stations for workers within acceptable distances from the manufacturing unit.
A total of 30 awards are supposed to given to various sectors in this direction with the highest five awards for a single industry.
