US-based retail giant Walmart has revealed its plans to increase import of garment, footwear and luggage products from Cambodia.
Walmart executives recently met Cambodian Labour Minister Ith Samheng in Phnom Penh to discuss the possibilities.
The retailer took the decision of increasing its imports from Cambodia after it observed the growing potential of the country’s suppliers. Walmart executives also expressed satisfaction over the improved labour conditions in Cambodia.
Walmart has been among the big players who source garment products from Cambodia.
In the first six months of 2017, garment and footwear exports from Cambodia to the US noted a 6.9 per cent increase to US $ 3.7 billion, informed the Labour Ministry.
Cambodia has been enjoying the duty-free benefits on the export of travel goods to the US since last year under the Generalised System of Preferences. Now, the increasing interest of the retail giant will further improve the country’s exports.
