Shri Dadu Impex, Kolkata-based manufacturer of fashion accessories is entering into the export market and focusing on niche products. Prakash Kataruka of the company shared that the firm is enthusiastic after good response in domestic market and is now participating in international sourcing fairs where it got good response; in fact it expects its first order soon. The company has started manufacturing niche products that are highly valued in the market. “We have started handprinted scarves which are rare in India. Even at a recent sourcing fair there was not even a single company that had similar products. All other kinds of printing from screen to digital are easily available but not hand-print which gives a very different look.
And most importantly there can’t be two similar pieces in hand-print products so it gives exclusivity to the user,” reasons Prakash.
There are limitations in the production of such hand-printed scarves as it is a time-taking job, so the company is planning to enhance its production to meet the demand but it may take time. There are however no limitations to the type of fabric as hand-printing on any blend is possible. Shri Dadu Impex has initiated the product with tussar silk/ tabby silk which is very costly. This hand-printed scarf on tussar silk fabric has an FOB of US $ 32 which includes 50 per cent cost of printing. “We are confident that there is demand for such costly scarves, but we may need to put extra efforts to find such buyers,” he adds. Currently the capacity is almost 10,000 pieces per month (only in hand-print) and it is also ready for bulk orders also due to the advantage of its in-house printing in Jodhpur.
