There have been several reports on misuse of bonded warehouse facility and import of yarns and fabrics through wilful faulty declaration by a section of businesses, which has been causing loss to the industry.
Keeping the same in consideration, textile mill owners of Bangladesh have sought intervention of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to end such malpractices so as to save the country’s primary textile sector.
In this direction, the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) has written separate letters to the Prime Minister and Textiles and Jute Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi, which underlined that the local textile mills were in dire straits for last few years due to price hike of gas, import of fabrics through faulty declarations and misuse of bonded warehouse facility.
According to the letter, the BTMA member mills invested more than US $ 7 billion in the textile sector, but a good number of mills might turn into sick units due to misuse of bonded warehouse facility and import of yarns and fabrics through wilful wrong declaration by a section of the businesses.
