The smart clothing sector is expected to record a sales volume of over US $ 130 billion in 2025. This was stated by Mostafiz Uddin, Founder and CEO, Bangladesh Apparel Exchange (BAE), at a recently concluded press conference.
He added that increase in wages and production cost has left the country’s garment manufacturers with no option but to focus on value-added products and therefore the global market of smart clothing holds so much relevance for Bangladesh.
Elaborating on the same, Mostafiz Uddin said that this shift from producing basic items to value-added ones has to be done slowly with proper planning and execution and the upcoming Bangladesh Fashionology Summit will help facilitate that shift.
The second Bangladesh Fashionology Summit 2019 begins on 2 May at the International Convention City Bashundhara in Dhaka and intends to strengthen the country’s position to fetch its share in the US $ 130 billion smart clothing market. 41 speakers from 15 countries will be speaking at the sessions of the summit.
Themed as “Digitalization—the Next Destination”, the event will bring fashion tech leaders and experts from across the globe. Therefore, it perfectly aligns with the Government’s vision of “Digital Bangladesh Vision.”
Stressing on the importance of technology, Mostafiz Uddin said “Our mission is to facilitate innovative, advanced, technology-driven garment manufacturing and supply chain conversations and build a thriving community of leaders and innovators who will help to guide our nation in transforming into a ‘next-generation’ apparel manufacturing and marketing hub using latest digital technology and advancements.”
In addition to keynotes, exhibits and knowledge-sharing sessions, the summit will also provide a platform for start-ups to showcase their cutting edge innovation in fashion. There will also be a Tech Innovation Zone to exhibit the best of the latest fashion technologies and innovations.
