Target, the second-largest discount store retailer in the United States, has announced to add 1,00,000 workers to its current list of employees globally. These workers will extend their help during the upcoming holiday season.
The holiday staff recruitment by Target has noted a hike of 43 per cent from last year. The news of hiring has come at a time when the global retail market is donning a gloomy look.
Various retailers including Sears and Macy’s have already announced stores closure in view of the rising competition from e-retailers such as Amazon and fast-fashion retailers such as Forever 21.
Target’s move has come as a surprise in this struggling retail scenario. The retailer states it aims to offer a hassle-free shopping experience to its customers this holiday season which is why such huge workforce has been employed.
The company also points out that busy checkout lanes or lack of assistance during shopping has emerged as primary reasons behind customers’ walkout.
Additionally, the discount store retailer has further decreased prices of items to attract buyers.
Holiday sales start a day after Thanksgiving and continue until early January. Majority of the companies note around a third of their annual retail business during this particular period only. And it appears Target is all geared up to seize this opportunity.
