All the e-commerce companies in Bangladesh will have to get registered soon if they desire to run business in the country.
This was, reportedly, underlined by AHM Safiquzzaman, who is an Additional Secretary of the Commerce Ministry, while adding to ensure hassle-free registration, the Commerce Ministry was working on how to register all the e-commerce companies online.
It may be mentioned here that following widespread reports of anomalies and malpractices in the e-commerce sector of the country, the Government on 12 October formed a committee with Safiquzzaman as its Chairman to monitor e-commerce platforms and recommend steps to protect the rights of the consumers even as the committee sat in its first meeting recently while the next meeting is scheduled to be held next week.
Media reports, citing sources, further added that the committee will recommend the method of transparent financial transactions of e-commerce companies and how to bring them under VAT and Income Tax network even as it will have to submit a report before the cabinet division within one month as per the deadline set in the working paper.
