Contrary to its rival Target, Macy’s Inc. has announced to recruit only 80,000 temporary workers for the smooth functioning during the upcoming holiday rush.
Target has already announced a massive hiring of 1,00,000 (up 43 per cent from last year) seasonal employees.
Total recruits by Macy’s will be 3,000 less than that of last year’s 83,000.
The fashion retailer will, however, increase its packaging and shipping staff to quicken its delivery services. It will rope in 3,000 more workers compared to last year’s 15,000 to 18,000 this year.
Most of the American retail companies note around a third of their annual retail business during this particular period only, reports claim. And temporary recruitment for the holiday season indicates Macy’s expectations of performing better.
Macy’s is among those retailers that have been struggling to cope with the declining footfall at its physical stores. The company would want to make the most of the holiday season this year.
The retailer operates more than 700 department stores under the nameplates Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s, and approximately 125 speciality stores that include Bloomingdale’s The Outlet, Bluemercury and Macy’s Backstage.
The temporary workforce will be deployed at these stores as well to enhance the customers’ shopping experience.
