Despite numerous challenges including the global economic slowdown, Bangladesh has managed to register 5.89 per cent export earnings growth (US $ 5.13 billion) year-on-year this January even if the country had received around US $ 4.85 billion from merchandise shipments in the month of January last year.
Media reports claimed this citing the official data released recently while also adding the country’s apparel sector played a major role in this.
As per data from Bangladesh’s Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), the country managed to fetch US $ 4.42 billion from apparel exports In January 2023 even if the overall earnings 2.10 per cent short of the target set for the last month.
Meanwhile, speaking to media BGMEA President Faruque Hassan reportedly termed apparel export performance very good considering the challenges especially in face of plummeting demand on account of high inflation and the fallouts of the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.
